FMPS News

March 2009

The most often heard comment lately has been, “The days and weeks are really going by quickly.” It seems that we only began this school year and it’s already spring. The teachers are making plans for end-of-the-year celebrations so mark your calendars and don’t miss the fun. The staff strives to plan special events that they feel are kid-friendly and stress free for adults and most of all fun for everyone. At the close of the school year we want to celebrate the preschool experience with enjoyable family activities that will leave your children with fun-filled memories of their preschool friends and teachers.

*The readiness and 4’s classes will have a family cookout at the pavilion on Wednesday, May 27. Each class will have a special program in the classroom prior to the cookout. Your child’s teacher will give you specific times for each event.

*Two and 3 year-olds’ families are invited to gather on the playground for a picnic on Tuesday, May 26. Your child’s teacher will provide details.

Remember to plan to attend the spring music program on May 21 at 11:00 in the Family Life Center.

Thanks to the extremely successful Consignment Sale the preschool has received $1,154. Similar portions were also given to MOPS and to the church. Thanks to all of you that contributed in any way and especially to Lauri Waddell, Wendy Ellington and Alison Vannoy who spearheaded the organization and work force for the 4 day event. The Fall Consignment sale is scheduled for September 18-19 so sort for the sale when you pack away clothes from the winter.

Picture Perfect has done a beautiful job of capturing the precious expressions of your children and we appreciate your support and cooperation in viewing the proofs. If you have not seen your child’s proofs please come by the preschool office this week. All proofs will be returned to Picture Perfect by April 1. Orders placed this week will be included with the original orders and delivered April 20. *Attached you will find a questionnaire on future Picture Perfect photo sessions. Please share your opinion with us by completing and returning the form to school before the Easter break.

Summer Fun! We are excited to offer a one session summer camp for pre-kindergarten ages 2-6, June 29-July 2, 9amnoon. Please use the attached Summer Camp form to register your child for a fun time at Friedberg. Preferred registration for preschool families will continue through April 9.

Staff meeting is Wednesday, April 1- no Lunch Bunch.

Spring Break is April 13-16. We will return to school on Monday, April 20.

If you choose to bring younger siblings to the playground or gym during the preschool hours, please do not leave them unattended for the teachers to supervise. You must watch them carefully and abide by the same rules that all the preschool children follow; for example, children are not allowed on the stage or to walk on the bleachers. You are welcome to visit the playground and gym but the best time is before and after the classes have playtime. If you are there when the classes are there be aware that groups of older children can be hazardous for smaller children. Our primary concern is the safety of your child.

Save drink pouches! Capri Sun and Honest Kids drink pouch producers have teamed with TerraCycle, Inc. to recycle beverage pouches and convert them into shopping bags, tote bags and pencil cases. In return for the pouches they will pay the school $.02 for each empty Capri Sun, Honest Kids and Kool Aid pouch. All other pouches earn $.01. Simply designate a collection bag (plastic grocery bag will do) and have your family place empty drink pouches, without the straw, into the bag instead of the trash can. When your bag is full, send it to school. Your eco-friendly activity saves trash from going to the landfill and earns cash for the school while teaching your children the importance of recycling. For more information on TerraCycle, Inc. projects and environmentally friendly products visit www.terracycle.net.

The WEE Care children’s cereal drive for Crisis Control continues through March 31. A collection box is located on the main floor by the elevator. Let’s fill the box for the children!

Friedberg’s Chicken Pie and Country Ham Supper and Bazaar is this Saturday from 4-7 in the Family Life Center. Take out is also available in the fellowship hall. It’s a wonderful meal and a fun event for the church and community and we would love to have you join us!

Always feel free to share your concerns or suggestions with our staff or director. If you see a need or have a request, please let us know. We all want Friedberg Moravian Preschool to be the best it can be for your children.
