FMPS News

January 2010

Welcome to 2010! Despite the frigid temperatures outside, the preschool atmosphere is warm and lively. As the weather warms back to normal the children will again have a chance to go outside so please always dress them in appropriate coats.

*Davidson county schools have teacher work days on January 25 and 26. If there is weather that affects safe travel on those days, please look for closing or delay information for Friedberg Moravian Preschool on WFMY, Fox8 and WXII. I will also send out an email.

A near accident happened at pick up time last week and together we can help prevent that from happening again. When coming to the building to pick up your child, please hold your child’s hand when leaving the lobby or covered area. A running child is not easily seen by a driver. If you need to have a conversation with a teacher, please wait until the class is safely placed in cars and with parents. Always let the teacher know that you are taking your child away from the waiting area. Our main concern is the safety of your children and together we can insure that drop off and pick up are safe for everyone.

Staff Meeting produced many event dates for winter, spring and summer activities…

The MOPS/Preschool spring consignment sale will be held March 3-6 in the family life center. It isn’t too early to begin sorting through last year’s clothing, forgotten toys, baby gear, books, etc. for the sale. Details for pricing and labeling will be forthcoming.

Parent conferences for 4’s and readiness students will be held the first week of February and the teachers will be contacting you for appointment times. The purpose of the conference is to share information about your child’s developmental progress and give you a chance to ask questions about kindergarten readiness. A second session will be given on School Readiness by Judith Kuhn, kindergarten teacher at Forsyth Country Day School, on January 21 at Knollwood Baptist Church at 7:00. There is no charge.

Delightful products that showcase your child’s art will be available through Art by Me.  A sample magnet will be sent home in mid-March. Ordered products will be back before Mother’s Day. Look for an announcement in early March.

A Scholastic book fair will be held April 26-29 in the preschool lobby. Preschool level books will be available as well as some for older children. If you are interested in helping, please let me know.

Pastries with Parents will also be held the week of April 26. More details will be given at a later date.

The school calendar for 2010-2011 is being developed and your suggestions or concerns are important to us. You may share those by email (mreich@friedbergmoravian.org), phone (764-1840), in person or drop a note in the basket on my desk.

Forsyth County parents: School choice time is February 22–March 5.
